2012 - Spring Chicklette Program

You and your daughter are an exciting part of SMGLL’s Chicklette Program.  The purpose of this
program is to introduce, excite, and spike your daughter’s interest in lacrosse.  The curriculum is
designed to introduce skill sets through the avenue of fun and games!  There are some changes to the
Chicklette Program for 2012.  Please see the letter below from our Chicklette Director, Mia
Finkelston.

Dear Chicks and Parents,

We are SOOOOO excited for this time of year and the start of lacrosse!!!! The weather has
definitely been in our favor too, nice and mild. It can be cold in the mornings, so be sure to
dress in layers.

We have had an incredible turnout of enthusiastic chickies this year.  The mission of SMGLL
includes introducing the sport to young ladies and this includes those 4-6 year olds that are
eager to see what it's all about.  That being said, they don't want to say "no" after a certain
number has been reached.  They want to encourage ALL girls to give it a chance.  This year
there are 54 registered chicklettes!!!  The future of local lacrosse is looking good for the St
Mary's County.

It can become challenging to keep girls interested and focused when they are waiting around
and not getting enough attention.  With this in mind, we are going to have 2 sessions this
year.  We hope that parents can see the benefit for both the coaches as well as the growing
chicklettes.

Therefore, beginning on Sat March 17th those born after 3/1/2006 will have their session
from 10-11 am and those born before 3/1/2006 will begin at 11am and go till noon.  We hope
this change is acceptable to all.

***NEW FIELDS THIS YEAR***    Meidinski field which is in front of the Leonard Hall Rec center
Parents may line their chairs/blankets up on the side that parallels
route 245 to 'corral" the chicks.

Please be aware that this field follows the closure decisions made by Rec and Parks so in
case of questionable weather, always check their hot line though SMGLL will also post it in
their website as soon as decision is made.

If you do not have goggles and a stick, we have some equipment that we can loan out for use
at each session. Please have your own mouth guard and water bottle. Girls will not be
allowed to play without a mouth guard and mold it before you arrive on March 17th.  The girls
cannot keep an unmolded one in their mouth very well.

Well, I think that does it for all of the information for the clutch of chicks that start March 17th
2012...Let's get ready for some fun and be sure to wear yellow!!!!

Fondly,  Coach Fink
